The story of Anias and Jadon captured the attention of people around the world. They were born cranially conjoined, their brains intertwined.
Their parents, Nicole and Christian McDonald, knew the surgery to separate them was rare and complex.
They were referred to world-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. James T. Goodrich, former Chief, Pediatric Neurosurgery at Montefiore. No one has operated on more conjoined twins like Anias and Jadon than he has.

Montefiore surgeons and doctors prepared for months in advance. The team, comprising more than 50 specialists across 12 disciplines, performed 4 surgeries over 9 months to separate Anias and Jadon's intertwined brains.
Dr. James T. Goodrich led the surgical team and Dr. Oren M. Tepper led the reconstructive portion of Anias and Jadon's care.
CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta took viewers deep inside Children's Hospital at Montefiore to meet the team and detail the historic 27-hour long surgery that separated the twins.
Anias and Jadon have made a strong recovery and continue to show tremendous progress as a result of the separation. They continue to defy the odds on their road to recovery.

ANOTHER WORLD FIRST BY MONTEFIORE.
Dr. Goodrich and Dr. Tepper pioneered the use of virtual planning and 3D printing technologies to plan separation and reconstruction for Anias and Jadon's brains.
The lifelike and anatomically perfect 3D models were available in the operating room and acted as a blueprint to practice and review before the operation even began.
